On 13.12.2008 Father Evan Ashley decided to inaugurate the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul in Catholic Church Student Center. The members chose the name Saint Katarina for their group and they start to run this project with difficulty. Father Ashley he stood with us and showed us the way ahead. The group leader with his team try their best to ensure the smooth functioning of the group.
This group was started with merely $50. That money was donated by Father Evan Ashley. When we saw the situation of the poor people living in Phnom Penh, we decided that should be the first cause we support. They not only had no food and no place to live, but, there was not even fresh air or decent living conditions. When we went there for a short time we felt nauseated. It was difficult to imagine the difficulties that they would be going through.
Even though we are engaged full time in University education, we try to reach out to the people in need. We have dedicated our week ends for their cause. We study in different schools, in different departments and different stage of university students. We also share the household chores. On Saturday evening we convene a meeting to decide on what to do on Sunday and on Sunday afternoon we go to implement what we discussed during the meeting. We are also poor but have more than the people whom we help. We voluntarily offer monetary support for our group. On once such meeting we made a secret gift to offer all that we had.
